Men’s Bible Study 2026-2027
Sharpening Your Sword
Join us on Wednesday evenings for a time of study in God’s Word designed to spiritually challenge and equip each believer for greater usefulness in the hands of God.
During the 2026–2027 study year, Sharpening Your Sword will work through the book of Judges while learning how to study the Bible inductively. This approach emphasizes careful observation of the biblical text, accurate interpretation, and faithful application to our lives.
Judges is a gripping and sobering book filled with violence, sin, idolatry, and the repeated consequences of Israel’s disobedience. During this turbulent period, God raised up judges to deliver His people from oppression and call them back to faithfulness. As we examine the historical context and theological themes of Judges, we will seek to understand the text faithfully and discover what God teaches us through Israel’s recurring rebellion, His righteous judgment, and His steadfast mercy.
The men’s and women’s groups will follow the same study and use the same homework. The groups meet on alternating Wednesday evenings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a book I should purchase for this study?
Yes. We recommend Be Available: Old Testament Commentary on the Book of Judges by Warren W. Wiersbe as a companion to the study.
What is an inductive Bible study?
Inductive Bible study is a method that begins with the biblical text itself and follows three basic steps:
Observation: What does the passage say?
Interpretation: What does the passage mean?
Application: How should it shape what I believe and how I live?
The goal is to help you understand God’s Word carefully and apply it faithfully.
Is there homework each week?
Yes. Homework will be assigned between sessions, and we strongly encourage everyone to complete it. The homework will help you practice inductive study, prepare for group discussion, and deepen your understanding of God’s Word.
What if I attend a different church or don’t know anyone?
You are absolutely welcome! You do not need to attend Beacon of Hope or know anyone beforehand. We would love to meet you, and there is room in every small group for new participants.
Do I need previous Bible-study experience?
Not at all. Whether you have studied the Bible for years or are just learning how to study it for yourself, this study is designed to help you grow in understanding and applying Scripture.
Can I join after the study has begun?
Yes. New participants are welcome throughout the study. Previous homework and recordings will be available online to help you get caught up.
What if I miss a session?
You can access the homework and session recording on your ministry’s webpage, then join us again at the next meeting.
